Makayla's Surgery

In the end of June we had an exploratory surgery on Makayla's left ear.  We did the same surgery 2 years ago on her right ear and the hearing actually improved on that side.  We are still hoping for similar results but it took lots of time.  As of now it has not had the impact we hoped for but the surgery went well.
This was before the surgery, her surgery time was postponed because an emergency surgery came in.  She got to color on her hospital doll and do all the pre-op checks on her.  She had so much fun.  I felt so bad for her, she did not eat for almost 24 hours and was a little bit grumpy before going into surgery.  But all in all she handled it like a champ.

When they got into her middle ear they found lots of scar tissue.  They removed it and as one of the ear bones was completely covered in scar tissue it took a little manipulation to get it moving again.  We are grateful, however, that they did not have to do major repairs on the ear bone as that would have required an incision behind her ear.  Her ENT is watching her closely for improvements to her hearing.  His main worry is that the scar tissue has grown back.  I really hope not :)   She is wearing her hearing aids and is doing wonderful things in school.  She may not be at grade level in all her skills yet but she is making so much progress that we will be transferring her back to our neighborhood school Falcon Ridge next school year.  She is excited to go to school with her neighborhood friends again .

Catch up post! May - June

Wow I just realized how much time has gone by without any posts.  We have been busy and had a very fun summer, here are a few highlights to get caught up!

Memorial Day weekend we spent in Mayfield with Clint's family.  We spent some time in Ephraim for Scandinavian Days and had a blast.

Here are the kids playing Apples to Apples, it was hilarious to listen to :)

On Makayla's last day of school her friend Savannah who lives in Heber came to our house to play.  They had so much fun.  We made suckers out of Life Savers and it was fun to watch her with her friend.
We went to Tracy Aviary for the first time.  It was super cool!  I cant wait to go back again.
This bird buzzed us as it flew right over our heads
Makayla was chosen to be a helper, a big black crow landed on her arm.  She didn't cry or move but was not sure about it.  If you ask her now she will tell you she was brave
